UPDATE 5/18/2007: PROJECT TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION

"Construction of the nearly $12 million Towne Center at Soulsville commercial, office and residential project will begin by the end of this month... The new development will include two buildings housing the Williams Soulsville Apple Market grocery store, a post office, food court, an environmental court area and a 75-seat call center for the National Economic Opportunity Fund, a community development financial institution that helps women, minority and disabled-veteran business owners. The development is 70 percent leased, said Bridget Chisholm, the project's financial advisor." more>>

Project Description

Located across from the new Stax Museum and Stax Music Academy in historic Soulsville, the Towne Center at Soulsville would dramatically change the face of this Memphis neighborhood. The Stax complex was built on the original site of Stax Records, home of soul singers such as Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, and Sam & Dave. To complement this 20 million dollar investment in the community, LOCCDC has developed a mixed-use incubator which would support minority owned retail and dining establishments, along with two of NEOF's platform businesses; a Call Center and Telemedicine Provider. NEOF has provided consulting and strategic planning services to this project for the last three years.
